For the month of July I had the opportunity to be a conducting fellow at the Eastern Music Festival in Greensboro, North Carolina. At the festival, I worked with the three orchestras in addition to studying conducting with the three faculty conductors: Grant Cooper, Jose Luis Novo, and Music Director Gerard Schwarz.

I'm extremely happy to share the recording of "Proclamation" performed live at the 42nd International Trumpet Guild Conference in Hershey, PA. This is the live performance of Scott Thornburg, trumpet, and Helen Lukan, piano performing the piece on the New Works Recital earlier this month.

"Proclamation" was premiered at the 42nd annual International Trumpet Guild Conference in Hershey, PA this past Friday. The piece was part of the "New Works Recital" that features new music composed recently for the trumpet. Scott Thornburg and Helen Lukan had an amazing performance of the piece that was met with thunderous applause. Below is the conference review.
"Zachary Ploeger’s Proclamation for Trumpet and Piano, commissioned by Scott Thornburg, opens with a bang and continues the theme of surprise throughout the entirety of the piece. Trumpeter Scott Thornburg engaged the audience from the very first brilliant tone, and pianist Helen Lukan continued to command attention with her aggressive entrance. If one is looking for continuity or transitions to make sense of the different sections of this piece, they will find none, as the composer sets up and then deliberately rejects the listener’s expectations. The somewhat disjointed nature of the first movement is in stark contrast to the second movement that features soft, docile lines and soaring high notes. Thornburg performed with unwavering consistency of tone and endurance throughout, and Lukan’s energy never faltered." - ITG Conference Blog

This past Saturday I graduated from Western Michigan University. I'm so thankful to all my teachers, family, mentors, and friends who have supported me during these past four years and have helped me grow as a trumpeter and composer.
Off to Arizona State University next fall!

Campus Strings had their Spring 2017 semester recital and I had the pleasure of conducting Haydn's 6th Symphony. It was great to rehearse and conduct with them all semester!
